JOPLIN, MO.--- Call it a lucky drawing for Missouri Powerball players.

"You can't win if you don't play right?" Asks Cari Rerat, Librarian.

Someone did in Joplin, winning $1 million after purchasing a ticket at Casey's General Store on South Range Line.

"The pot got really big before some people won," states Rerat.

When word spread of that a winning ticket was in Missouri it got some people pretty hopeful.

"I texted my husband and said, 'did you check your tickets because it could be us'," states Rerat.

The Joplin winner will take home $710,000, after taxes. That person still hasn't come forward.

"I'm really excited for whoever won the million dollars in Joplin, I think that's great," states Rerat.

Others wonder if they'll spend the prize wisely.

"I hope they can handle it. A lot of people can't They just go and spend and then they don't have anything left so I hope they do well with it," states Janice Manuel, Resident.

Some say even though they didn't win, they're tempted to try their lucky numbers again.

"One time you don't play and you look in the paper the next day and there's your numbers," states Andrew Knowinski, Joplin Resident.

Others say they may change their strategy.

"We're thinking about playing when the pot is small maybe there will be a smaller number of people so our chances will be better," states Knowinski.

Or let other hopeful winners have their shot.

"It's kind of a form of gambling to me and I'm not interested in gambling so I guess some other person will have to win it," states Manual.

Either way there seems to be agreement on one thing.

"Somebody's got to win that thing and it could be you," states Rerat.

Casey's Gas Station will also cash in. They'll get a $1,000 bonus for selling the winning ticket. The winner has 180 days to claim their prize.
