SARCOXIE -- Just before 12:30PM Saturday emergency responders were called to a crash at mile marker 28 near Sarcoxie. According to the Missouri Highway Patrol, Bonnie Weaver of Tulsa, OK was driving in the wrong direction in the east-bound lanes. Her pickup truck struck another car carrying five other people head-on, killing Weaver and the driver of the other car, Johnny Washburn of Asbury. Four passengers were taken to Freeman Health System in Joplin, where they are listed in serious medical condition. One of those injured was transported by medical helicopter. Highway patrolmen are doing a through investigation of why weaver was going in the wrong direction.
"We try to work that timeline back a little bit and maybe see where her destination was and maybe try to work out any details as far as her background and where she was coming from or where she was headed to," says Mike Watson of the Missouri Highway Patrol.
Officers say it could take up to 30 days before the investigation is complete.
