BAXTER SPRINGS, KS.--- Army veteran, Wayne Cook, serves on a board that was organized to build a veterans memorial in Baxter Springs. For 2 years, Cook and the other members of the Veterans Memorial Board have worked to make the memorial a reality. In that time, they've raised nearly all of the approximately $140,000 it will take to build it.

"We are still about $20,000 short, but to be 2 years in and to be able to do what we've done with $140,000. To be about $20,000 short, I think that speaks well," says Charlene Hunley, Veterans Memorial Board.

"We needed a veterans memorial in this area. There's some around, but we needed one in this area, too," states Wayne Cook, Veterans Memorial Board.

To raise the rest of the funds, they're relying on private donations and the sale of pavers that can be inscribed with the name of a veteran and their service information.

For more information on purchasing a paver, or making a donation to the Baxter Springs Veterans Memorial, you can contact city hall at 620-856-2114.
