JOPLIN, MO - Wendy Spencer is head of The Corporation for National and Community Service (CNCS). She stopped at a home on West 32nd to visit the George family of Joplin.

AmeriCorps members have been working at their home for months to repair extensive damage from last year's tornado. Homeowners Jeannie and Warner George say they were excited about the visit, saying it's important to them to express how thankful they are for the work that's been done.

"When AmeriCorps came in they made things happen in a day that would have taken us a month to do or longer," said George.

CNCS provided a grant that helped make it possible for AmeriCorps crews to work here throughout the year. More than 350 members came to serve in Joplin immediately after the storm , 24 of whom are still in Joplin helping rebuild today.
