PITTSBUG, KS.--- Pittsburg city leaders took final steps to officially hand over the Department of Economic Development to the Pittsburg Chamber of Commerce. The move comes after the retirement of Pittsburg's previous director of economic development.

Now that the department is no longer headed by the city, commissioners approved an ordinance to add a new department of innovation and technology. City Manager Daron Hall says it's a good move to bring Pittsburg into the 21st century and hopefully save the city some money.

"We are going to try to do more with less people, and part of that's information technology. So, it's just critical that we give that the attention it needs and it needs to be a department," says Hall.

The first order of business for the new department will be making sure the city's new automated payroll system continues to run smoothly.
