CARL JUNCTION -- Last Saturday, the Washburn family's SUV was struck head-on in a collision on I-44, killing Johnny Washburn and leaving his other four family members seriously injured. Carl Junction's Chamber of Commerce member, high school school music leaders and area businesses are now coming together to host "Jazz-N-Java" next month.

The event will be free to the public, but donations will be taken to help pay for the family's medical bills. The evening will feature a silent auction, music from area school jazz bands and much more. Organizers say they are not surprised donations are already pouring in.

"This is Carl Junction's response to what's happened with the Washburn family," says Gary Stubblefield with the Carl Junction Chamber of Commerce. "This has been on everyone's mind since it happened. Everyone knows the family, all the kids."

Jazz-N-Java will be held Friday, February 22 at the Carl Junction High School.
