GROVE, OK.--- The Bass Master Classic is soon approaching and the Grove Police Department is gearing up to make sure everything goes smoothly. There will be 5 traffic control posts near the launch site at Wolf Creek Park. Police will be on 16th Street, 21st, and Sunrise Boulevard.

Those living north and west of the event site will be detoured to 36th Street when driving out of their neighborhoods. Highway 59 will remain open. For extra safety, Integris Hospital will have an ambulance at Wolf Creek. The Grove Fire Department and Delaware County Emergency Management will also be on hand.

"Anything can happen and you always want to over prepare. You don't want to be caught behind. You want to be ready for whatever can happen," says Sgt. Jerry Bohannan, Grove Police Department.

The Grove Police Department is also adding extra patrol units at hotels and restaurants to make sure those businesses don't run into any problems. 20 to 25 area residents will be helping direct traffic and assist with parking at the event site.

Comments

I live in the neighborhood affected by the Bassmasters. For Grove P D to issue a comment they don't want to be behind any possible trouble is a joke. People in our neighborhood have tried to use the P D several times to stop problems here. This includes everything from drug dealers to thieves to illegal keeping of pets. This segment was for show only. We hope the Bassmasters do well but we don't expect police protection to improve because of their presence.
