JOPLIN, MO--It was extremely busy for Higdon Florist in Joplin with last minute shoppers that came in to pick up balloon's and flowers. The shop, which is usually closed on Sunday's, helped more than 70 people with a special arrangement for mom. Higdon Florist Owner Marcia Baker says flowers are a great way to show someone you care. "Flowers always say something." Baker explains. "I think they say 'I Love You' in many respects, whether it's Valentine's or for mom's."
Valentine's day is still the busiest time of year for florists, with Mother's day coming in a close second.
But what do most mom's want for their special day?
A poll by the Harris Company, for an on-line retailer, says that nearly half of the mother's polled prefer a day at the Spa. While 72% of men thought flowers were the right way to go. The national retail federation estimates the average person will spend around $150 this year for Mother's day.
And Working Mother Magazine unveiled it's list of the most powerful mothers for 2012.
Sara Blakely, the self made billionaire who created Spanx, tops the list. Other women who made the cut are Today Show Co-Anchor Ann Curry, Angelina Jolie, Hunger Games Author Suzanne Collins. And new mom, Beyonce' Knowles.
