JOPLIN, MO.--- The Law Enforcement Sales Tax Board is a board that passes out a percentage of tax payer money given to the sheriff's office, to local police departments. Board members approved the decision at a meeting today. The Missouri Southern State University joins other local departments who are already eligible to receive funding. University Police Chief Ken Kennedy says their annual budget is $40,000, which is mostly paid for by the state. They are strapped for money for vehicles. Chairman James Woestman welcomed the decision.

"We will grant them requests if they need a car or computers. It's the taxpayer's money being used to help the university," states James Woestman, L.E.S.T Grant Board Chairman.

Board leaders estimate their budget for next year will be more than $170,000. This year the board's budget was $164,000.
