CARTHAGE, MO.--- Randal Wheeler has called the Carthage Crisis Center home for three months. The center provides housing for about 30 homeless people like Wheeler.

The Carthage Crisis Center is one of 13 local agencies that's able to operate through funding from Carthage Area United Way.

"It keeps the lights on. It provides the staffing here. It provides all the utilities and the transportation where we're taking people back and forth," says Brian Bisbee of the Carthage Crisis Center.

To fulfill the needs of these agencies Carthage United Way wants to raise $300,000 by January 31st for fiscal 2012-13.

"It's not about the goal so much as it is taking care of the need. So it's to fulfill the need not the goal," says Jennifer Mansfield, Carthage United Way.
