JOPLIN, MO.--- "My question was, how much does he have, does he have enough money to buy tickets," asks Audrey Tallent, West Central Student, 5th Grade.
West Central student, Audrey Tallent, is using an iPad and QR codes to work on math story problems.
"I put 19 times 5 because each ticket is $19 and he has 5 friends," says Tallent.
Teacher, John Wilcox, checked out iPads for the entire class. He says using the tablets revolutionize learning.
"It allows the kids to interact with the information in ways they normally couldn't. Like in a lecture, you can't go back and hear it again," says John Wilcox, West Central Teacher.
Wilcox says the new system allows student to get comfortable with technology they'll need to know when they hit the workforce.
"Using the tools that they're going to be expected to use, and using what's around us already. The 21st Century is here, whether you like it or not, we better get a grasp of it and start using it," says Wilcox.
It's not just this 5th grade class. Besides iPads, West Central has added iPods, smart pens, and document cameras to help share information throughout the class. It's a technology overhaul that Audrey Tallent says makes class fun.
"I don't think everybody gets to have iPads because some people have to do pencil and paper like the kindergartners," says Tallent.
The high tech learning doesn't stop at the classroom door. Scan the QR code at the doorway, that takes you right to a virtual classroom where you can catch up on all that's going on.
