PITTSBURG, KS.--- The Imagine Pittsburg 2030 project is in good shape after year three. Pittsburg city leaders had funded nearly $25,000 towards the project when it first began in 2010 and got a chance to see the progress so far.

"Tonight was a chance to circle back around and show them the results, give them an update, let them know where we were headed, seek input, and really just validate that where we've been is a direction they're comfortable with," says Co-Chair of Imagine Pittsburg Brad Hodson.

After receiving nearly 2,500 survey responses in 2010, committee members also wanted to make sure people living in Pittsburg knew their voices were heard.

"Like the International Property Management Code, taking a look at doing away with some condemned properties. It would give the community a chance to see this is really working," says Hodson.

"What I really like is all the information that we have gathered from the citizens of Pittsburg and their participation and how willing they were to share with us," says Marty Beezley, Pittsburg City Commissioner.

Tonight completes phase one, including housing, economic development, public wellness, and infrastructure. Some goals that fall under these categories and are currently in progress include, making Pittsburg a major medical hub, revamping the south side of town,  and capitalizing on the buying power of Pitt State students.

"You know, things change over time, and it's not good to stay the same. You need to always strive to be better, and that's what we're doing," says Beezley.

Imagine Pittsburg 2030 is an ongoing process that is constantly evolving so phase two is not outlined yet. City officials feel in order to make the project successful, they need continued support and input from residents. Committee members are aiming for the next town hall meeting to be held sometime during the first week of February. They encourage residents to attend.
