PITTSBURG, KS.--- The Pittsburg schools superintendent says the district has been working to upgrade safety for the past year. They've come up with a few options with the help of local law enforcement. One possibility is to add a buzzer at each school entrance.

Those wanting to go into the school would have to be let-in by the secretary. Better bulletproof windows is another option along with adding resource officers at all schools. Currently, those officers are only at the middle and high schools.

"We just need to make the environment of the school as safe as can be for kids, that kids feel safe, parents feel safe having their kids there," states Destry Brown, Pittsburg Schools Superintendent.

Brown says the next step is to look at the district's budget to see how the changes can be financed. He says some changes could be made around summer time.
