JOPLIN, MO-- Out of state vehicle taxes are getting extra attention at the state level. The Senate bill would temporarily reinstate the tax which was struck down by the courts last year. It banned cities and counties from collecting vehicle sales tax on purchases made out of the state. The Missouri Revenue Department says that translated to a $43 million loss across the state last year.

State Senator Ron Richard said, "What we're going to try to do is level that out with the competition. Because we've got car dealerships that might not make it because the sales are going out of state."

If approved, the Senate bill would also require cities and counties to put the out of state sales tax to a vote of the people.
