MISSOURI---- Several states including Alabama, Louisiana and now Arkansas allow proof of car insurance to be shown to police officers electronically.

Yesterday, Arkansas House lawmakers passed the proposal that would permit drivers the option to show their proof of insurance electronically through a smart phone.

This can be used when registering their vehicle or during a traffic stop. Local insurance agents say they welcome the change.

"I think it's a great thing because how many times do you forget to take your ID card and put it in your car? We all get busy and we have good intentions, but it lays there and you're in an accident," says Loretta Bailey, Allstate Agency Owner.

Missouri is considering the proposal during the 2013 legislative session.
