JOPLIN, MO. ---

Robert Arnold is a U.S. Army veteran who has volunteered at the Joplin Public Library almost every day for more than 10 years.

Today he received the Lieutenant Governor's Veterans Service Award for his contribution.

Lt. Gov. Peter Kinder created the award as a way to honor veterans' continued service to their communities.

Arnold processes and mends books, shelves movies, and helps out in the summer reading program.

"I was just completely floored, because I didn't think I had done enough to win something like that as much as people volunteer around anyway," Arnold says.

"What can you say about a fine example like this. He's an inspiration to his neighbors and his friends, his family in this community, and he's an inspiration to all Missourians," Lt. Gov. Kinder says.

Arnold's wife's favorite place was the library. He began volunteering after she died.
