JOPLIN -- Online retailers, like Wal-Mart, Best Buy and Toys-R-Us are all participating in Cyber Monday by offering special deals over the internet. Cyber Monday was coined in 2005 by the Nation Retail Federation to describe the surge in online buying the Monday after Thanksgiving. The day is specifically aimed at office workers, who will take advantage of online deals during their lunch hours, between noon and 3PM. The NRF projects 52% of all shoppers this year will spend more than $1.2 billion Monday alone. If that projection holds true, Cyber Monday 2012 will be the biggest online spending day ever. If you plan to do some online shopping, during this holiday season, confirm the website you are using is secure before entering any information. Experts say to look for an "S" after the HTTP in the URL. They also say paying with a credit card will offer more protection than using a debit card. You should also check your bank statements regularly to make sure there aren't any suspicious charges. Experts also recommend keeping a record of order confirmations and receipts in a designated folder in the inbox of your email account.
