DUQUESNE, MO.--- "You can hardly sleep at night because the smell is so strong," states Charles Ward, Duquesne Resident.
Charles Ward lives near the intersection of Duquense and 32nd street. A sharp sewage odor is an issue at his home.
"This is the strongest it's been. You really notice it during the winter, because of the north wind," states Ward.
Ward went to the city council meeting last night looking for assistance in resolving the issue.
"I turned around in the audience and everyone was nodding their heads, yes this is a problem we smell it too. Everybody is tired of it out here," states Ward.
It is unclear where the smell is coming from as 2 businesses with potential odor issues are located in the area near 32nd and Duquense.
"Residents living near 32nd street, when the wind is out of the North, they claim that it's from Jasper Products. When the wind's out of the Southwest, the people here in the Northern part of the city get a bad odor that we think is from Protein Solutions," states Denny White, Duquesne Mayor.
No matter where it's originating, Ward says he just can't get away from the smell.
"You turn on your heater or your air and the smell comes out of the vent and it takes a couple of days to get out of the car," says Ward.
He says he just wants clear air.
"I have a right to live in my house smell free," states Ward.
Mayor White says he contacted managers at Protein Solutions who said they would look into the potential issue, KSN also spoke with officials at Jasper Products who said they haven't noticed any substantial odor, and residents have contacted DNR officials to look into the smell problem.
