Investors Turn to Financial Advisers Concerning the Fiscal Cliff

JOPLIN, MO.--- Financial adviser Tyler Swaffar is seeing more investors seeking help lately.
"When investors are at their most concerned, that's when we're at our most need," states Tyler Swaffar, Edward Jones Financial Adviser.
It's because of the looming fiscal cliff.
"The conversations we're having definitely are a lot more geared toward the fiscal cliff because of its attention in the media today," says Swaffar.
If an agreement isn't reached by the end of the year, economists fear tax increases could send the U.S. economy off a fiscal cliff. It's causing investors to be concerned about their portfolios.
"Times like these bring in both experienced and non experienced investors," states Swaffar.
Swaffar says he thinks the fiscal cliff debate will bring the two parties together to compromise.
"I think the fiscal cliff is a good thing for our country to be talking about and our Congress to be facing," states Swaffar.
The conversation is also on the state level, Senator Roy Blunt says he talked to the president about a week ago.
"Divided government is a good time to solve big problems because everybody has to have their political fingerprints on the solution," states Senator Roy Blunt, Missouri.
While we can't control these political fingerprints, and when congress comes to an agreement, Swaffar says investors should focus on what they can control.
"For example, the quality of the investments that they own, the diversification and the balance of their investments, as well as their disciplined long term approach," states Swaffar.
Swaffar says he expects to stay busy throughout the rest of the year with more people trying to protect their investments.
