PITTSBURG, KS.--- Hundreds of women spend the evening shopping and socializing, all for a good cause. Purses, crafts, cakes, and more were all up for grabs tonight at the 2nd annual "Bags To Riches Extravaganza" in Pittsburg.

The event raises money for the Safehouse Crisis Center in Southeast Kansas, which provides support for hundreds of victims of domestic assault each year. Organizers say it's a chance to enjoy an elegant evening while helping out men, women and children in need.

"We have staff, volunteers, and board members that are out there asking all of their family and friends to donate a purse, and then since it's our 2nd year, some ladies have donated 2 years in a row. So, we really have a great support from the community," says Rebecca Brubaker, Safehouse Executive Director.

Last year, the event raised $10,000 for the crisis center, and volunteers expect to bring in even more tonight.

Mission Statement

Did you know that over 5,000 people die each year from distracted driving in the United States alone?

Did you also know that studies show that texting while driving impairs a driver in the same manner as being legally intoxicated?

That's why KSNF, KODE, and Fourstateshomepage.com are teaming up with Hershewe Law Firm, First Missouri Insurance, Freeman Health System, and McDonald County Telephone to bring you Four States No Text Zone! This is a new program meant to do one thing: get all drivers in the four state area to pledge to never text while driving.

Help us put the brakes on texting and driving. Click below and sign the pledge, visit any of our sponsors to pick up your thumb band, and then follow through on your word. We're all counting on you.
