Joplin, MO-- Automated watering bowls, spacious kennels, and even a bright billboard out front.

The new Joplin Humane Society building has all the bells and whistles, and is ready to serve as the flagship for animal adoption in the Joplin area.

As crews put the last minute touches on the shelter, the four legged residents are getting ready to move in.

"It's a lot of staging, and we need to make sure we have each individual tracked, and we get them in the right case so that they can move safely," Executive Director Karen Aquino said.

About 200 dogs and cats are making the move.

For the larger dogs, they'll have to make the tail wagging trip on foot, but with bigger spaces to live in, it should be worth the stroll from Swede Lane to North Main.

"We're so excited, this is a dream come true for so many people. And the animals deserve better than what they've been living in, and we're just thrilled the community has come together to help us raise the money to move to the new building.," Aquino said.

The new building replaces the original facility built in the 1960's, and with the latest technology and the newest amenities on hand Aquino says, "We will be ready to rock and roll."
