STARK CITY---Officers responded to a request last week to check on the well being of an elderly lady living on Highway O. Deputies found the woman to be alright but noticed a large number of dogs on the property. Of the 69 animals, most of the pets were living inside the house trailer with the residents while some were outside in a fenced area. The animals were in poor condition and weren't being fed properly. Some of the dogs on the property were dead and had been for a while. Sheriff Ken Copeland contacted the Missouri Humane Society to seek assistance. The property owners gave up the dogs willingly and will not be facing any charges. Residents are always encouraged to contact law enforcement if they suspect animal abuse of any kind.
