Group Trying to Restore Historic Theaters in Lamar

LAMAR- The Plaza and Barco Drive-in have been a part of Lamar since 1934.

Now, members of the Community Plaza Rescue are raising funds to restore the historic theaters. The theaters are planning to switch out 35 millimeter film for digital.

In the past two months, the group has raised $58,000 from private and small donations. Their goal is to raise $150,000.

Community Plaza Rescue is confident the community can help reach that goal.

"When this was redone in the late 1990's, the community raised hundreds of thousands of dollars," Pat O'Neal, treasurer of Community Plaza Rescue, says. "We're certain we can get there."
