JOPLIN, MO.--- For more than 20 years June Stokes and Dixie Boyd Carter have been friends. Their latest team up is to get people in the Christmas spirit. Their artwork will be put in the windows of Joplin City Hall. This years theme is traveling Route 66.
"We didn't have a lot to go by just photographs and we would go through the book and pick out what we wanted for the stills," states June Stokes, Artist.
You would think it'd take a long time to do several pieces, but how does 2 weeks sound?
"It's sort of like mass production of art. It has been a fun thing we've done," states Dixie Boyed Carter, Artist.
"We've been hauling. We've been doing 2 prints a day for the last 2 weeks," states June.
The art is painted on this brown paper that is similar to grocery bags. They use that so it'll stick to the windows better.
'It's heavy brown paper. A little bit heavier than grocery bag paper," states June.
June draws the outlines and Dixie is what they call the closer.
"That's right. I do the clean up, I do outlines, I do backgrounds. Just anything she needs to do," states Dixie.
The 2 ladies have done artwork for the past 4 years that are taped to the windows. They say each year is different. They enjoy having their friends and family come down to take a look and get in the holiday spirit.
"Hey come take a look at what mom and grandma did," states June.
