PARSONS, KS.--- "We live in small town Parsons, Kansas. So, it's pretty cool someone of her status came down here," says Abraham Russell, High School Student.
Abraham Russell and his fellow classmates were thrilled to meet Doctor Alveda King, Martin Luther King Junior's niece.
"The last thing she said was if you want to change just change right now," says Russell.
Doctor King got the high school students thinking about their identities and futures.
"I got that you should strive for what you really believe in and you should really go for your passion and do whatever you can to be successful in life," says Shay Kelly, High School Student.
"I know that it's important to help young people to discover their identity and to realize their dreams and in doing that we strengthen our society," says Dr. Alveda King.
She gave the kids a message of empowerment.
"That they're valued, that they're gifts and that they're treasures and that sexuality, human sexuality should not be at the top of their agenda. They should know what they're goals are, what their dreams are," says Dr. King.
The pro-life advocate says it's crucial for the young generation to learn to respect their bodies.
"All human beings have the desire to be loved. That's that God given, genuine kind of love. That message has kind of been rearranged with issues of human sexuality and permissiveness and material gain. So I want to bring the young people back to those values, that will affirm us," says Dr. King.
Doctor Alveda King will be speaking in Parsons again tomorrow at the Municipal Auditorium located at 112 South 17th Street. Her presentation starts at 11 in the morning and is free and open to everyone.
