JOPLIN, MO.--- Joplin Chamber of Commerce officials estimate announcements of new companies and business expansions total at least 400 additional jobs. Those range from new positions with an incoming pet food operation, to an extra 55 jobs through the Coca Cola expansion. Workers add, that should help keep Joplin's unemployment rate low in 2013.
"Our unemployment rate remains around the 5.5% mark, which is about 2% lower than the nation, and about 1% lower than Missouri, which is kind of typically where we are," states Rob O'Brian, Joplin Chamber President.
Missouri's unemployment rate is currently 6.9%, while the national rate sits at 7.9%.
