JOPLIN, MO.--- Speaker of the House, Tim Jones, met with voters this afternoon. While he addressed a wide range of legislative issues, he said the proposed expansion of Medicaid is a top priority. The federal government has proposed full funding for the change initially, but would require the state to take over part of the cost down the road. Jones says that would be disastrous for the state budget.

"I think there are ways to increase accessibility, lower costs, and still access some of that federal money that's being offered, but not to expand Medicaid to able bodied adults who should not be going on to our welfare rolls," states Tim Jones, Missouri Speaker of the House.

Missouri's 2013 legislative session starts on January 9th.
