JOPLIN -- Members of Peace Lutheran Church gathered at their future home Sunday, located at 3100 St. Louis Rd. in Joplin. Their original building was destroyed as the tornado tore through 20th Street and Wisconsin in May of 2011. The new building will cost approximately $1 million, and will include a new sanctuary, fellowship hall and sits on 14 acres. Church officials say they are excited to meet their new neighbors.
"How can we be a neighborhood church and invite the neighborhood in, and what can we provide for them and yet still be here because of the gospel," says Church Pastor Catharine Redpath.
Construction on the new facility will take approximately one year to complete.
