Bow Tie Cause

JOPLIN -- Two-hudnred contestants submitted designs for the best representation of Joplin's spirit for the "Bow Tie Cause" organization. Entries also had to include a story about why they created their unique bow ties. This weekend, three judges narrowed it down to five finalists, which are proudly on display at Spiva Center for the Arts. Those five entries will then be sent to Bow Tie Cause headquarters in Cincinnati, where the winning design will be selected. Organizers say seeing all of the neck wear has been an uplifting experience.

"The most striking thing about it though are the stories," says Spiva Center for the Arts executive director Jo Mueller. "The stories are incredible, They'r all so personal and touching and optimistic, hopeful, all of those things."

The winner will be selected within the next few weeks and Joplin's official bow tie will be sold nationally beginning in late April. All proceeds will go to Rebuild Joplin and Spiva Center for the Arts.
