JOPLIN -- Health care professionals offered free blood pressure check-ups to shoppers at the Ross Store in Joplin. The project is part of the hospital's community outreach program with the American Heart Association. Nurses say finding out if you have high blood pressure early could be a life-changing discovery.

"It's really important to take steps to be heart healthy during the month of February, to be extra aware and think of the things you can do in your lifestyle to make changes to lower your risk," says Mercy community outreach coordinator Kim Kory.

Heat disease kills more Americans each year than any other medical condition.
