CARTHAGE, MO.--- Dozens of firefighters, friends, and family members of Steve Fierro gathered to remember his life, and other firefighters who have lost their lives while protecting others.

Fierro was killed while battling a fire in 2004 while working for the Carthage Fire Department, Monday's service falls on the 9th anniversary of his death.

Since the department was opened in 1872, 3 other men besides Fierro had been killed while in the line of duty. Robert Cragin, David Helt, and Carl Wayne Pierce were also remembered tonight.

"I feel very honored. It's something that they deserve, ya know. We need to remember and never forget," says Roger Williams, Carthage Deputy Chief.

"Bad things could happen to any of us. You know, it's an honor that we get to honor Steve and all the other firefighters that have passed in the line of duty," says John Browder, Carthage Firefighter.

Tonight marks the 3rd year fire department officials have held the memorial service. They plan to continue to honor their fallen heroes for years to come.
