MIAMI, OK.--- Barbara Becker teaches the annual Genealogy Workshop at the Miami Public Library. The 12 week program is currently underway and enrollment has spiked since last year.
"I think people are interested because of Picher and the other old mining towns," says Barbara Becker, Miami Genealogy Librarian.
Around 50 people are in the workshops. Some are new to the hobby like Marcia Johnson who's made one discovery so far.
"I have a great grandma I never knew named Maggie. I don't know why, but I thought that was just so neat," says Marcia Johnson, Genealogist.
Becker says uncovering information is a slow process.

Betty Pulley has become an expert researcher. Genealogy has been her hobby for 38 years, tracing back her lineage to the 1200's.
"I have one man that he was so fat, he had a special wagon built, he was a plantation owner," says Betty Pulley, Genealogist.
Elizabeth Goad spends at least 3 hours a week at the library's genealogy section.
"Everyone's roots started somewhere," says Elizabeth Goad, Genealogist.
The library has around 2,000 books in the genealogy section. They range from yearbooks to tribal census records and history books of the four states. People can still get involved in the workshop. They're every Thursday at the Miami Public Library starting at 5:45 p.m.
