petfinder2008-05-28-1212006862.jpgYou no longer have to make a trip to the humane society to search for a pet. In fact, with a few clicks of the mouse, you can find anything from cats and dogs, to snakes and even skunks! Picking out one of these cute, fuzzy animals could take hours. But now, there's an alternative to walking around the humane society to find you're next furry companion. "Petfinder is for non-profit shelters that are trying to find homes for animals, and it really works! We've had people from Canada, Texas, Kentucky e-mail us about a specific dog," says Joplin Human Society manager, Deeanna Leinmiller. Petfinder.com is you're one-stop-shop for any domestic animal you can think of. "It's convenient, they can find a certain type that they are looking for, they can call about it, or e-mail and get more information and see if it's something they are interested in before they make the trip," says Leinmiller. The website works like this: Simply type in exactly what animal you're looking for, and Petfinder will search animal shelters all over the country to find the perfect match. "It's a good way to find more homes. We have placed animals in Kentucky, an old english sheep dog a few years ago, someone saw it on there and was willing to come get it," says Leinmiller. The website even has a classified section, where you can put animals up for adoption, and search for missing pets. "It's a win-win situation for the animals basically, the adoption rate went up, the euthanization rate went down, so anything to help find new homes is what it's about," says Leinmiller.  We have included Petfinder.com on our Pet Talk page.  CLICK HERE to visit Pet Talk Today!
