Miami, OK - Who says you can't teach an old dog new tricks?

Volunteers with two local animal shelters did just that, and held a friendly competition to show how far these pups have come.

The 13 dogs competing are from the Animal Adoption and Resource Center in Joplin and the Miami Animal Alliance.

The event took place at the Miami Civic Center.

Volunteers say they selected these dogs for training because they had either been at the shelter for a long time or had been returned after being adopted.

The lucky pups learned both obedience and agility skills.

The volunteers hope their new tricks find the dogs good homes.

If you're interested in adopting one of these dogs, contact the Animal Adoption and Resource Center in Joplin.
