cougar2008-07-16-1216249079.jpgGalena Police are investigating what may be a cougar sighting on the east side of town. Surveilance video was taken was taken on July 5. It shows a cat of some sort, walking across the Allied Waste Service parking lot in the middle of the night. The problem is, there is no way to tell the size of the feline. We went to the waste service parking lot, where we found several animal tracks, including those of what could be a large cat. Galena is sending all of the evidence they've collected to Kansas Wildlife and Parks Department to make a final judgment. Until a positive identification is made, Galena Police are advising people to keep an eye on their children and pets. Workers at Allied say they're sure this is a large cat, possibly weighing up to 120 pounds. They also say they've noticed less wildlife around the area over the last few weeks. The Kansas Wildlife Department is expected to make a determination on what this cat could be by late this week, or early next week.
