County commissioners gave the mergency management department approval to purchase and install a mass notification system.
The program will warn residents of severe weather and other emergency situations.
Officials will be able to send warnings to 40,000 people via phone call, email or text.
The notifications will reach anyone who signs up within 5 minutes.
The city will notify residents when they can register for the program.
It's expected to be ready within two weeks.
"It's just getting the word out for severe weather. Especially last night, we're right now starting to get into the heart of storm season. So, the sooner we can get this up and going the better it's going to be for the residents of Ottowa County," says Ottawa Co. Emergency Manager Frank Geaseland.
Both the Ottawa County and Miami Emergency managers will operate the system.
