This Saturday, Kansas governor Sam Brownback will be making a special trip to Cherokee county.

Brownback will be signing a proclamation naming Kansas Route 66 an historic byway, something local Route 66 historians say will help draw more attention to the 13.2 miles of the road that run through southeast Kansas.

Kansas Route 66 Historic Byway Committee Spokesperson Marla Larison says it will also help preserve the history of the famous mother road.

Governor Brownback will be signing the proclamation this Saturday at 1 PM.

The public is invited to attend the ceremony at Rainbow bridge just west of Riverton on Route 66.
