NEOSHO, MO.--- Jim Jackson and Carl Brand have very strong opinions about how a county government should be run. While both men are Vietnam veterans, their experiences after the war are very different. Jim Jackson spent 35 years in television, both on air and in management positions. He also taught at Crowder College for 11 years. Carl Brand spent 26 years in the U.S. Navy and then another 21 years in private industry, including managing maintenance of a renewable energy company. Both candidates believe county finances are a top priority.

"I'm going to be a good steward of the money you provide for county government. I'm going to watch over that extremely close. I'm also in favor of strong law enforcement," states Jim Jackson, Candidate for Newton County Commissioner.

"I believe that smaller organizations are better and more efficient. That would be my approach to county government," states Carl Brand, Candidate for Newton County Commissioner.

Jackson plans to promote Newton County to develop tourism and economic development. Brand would like to reduce the power of planning and zoning councils in the affairs of county residents. Tomorrow we will have a response from the other 2 candidates, Doc McCready and Rick McCully.
