MIAMI, OK.--- Barricades outline a narrow driving path for drivers on Highway 10 in Miami. For 17 months, crews have been working to make the roadway from I44 to Highway 137 safer. Drivers say the construction is not safe at all.

"I'm tired of having to go through there, it's so narrow," states a Highway 10 Traveler.

"I don't like it, it's hard. I think it's dangerous," states Highway 10 Traveler.

"They've had a highway patrol sitting up here for the past 2 weeks just keeping the traffic slowed down. They'll run over you out there," states David Payne, Lives Besides Highway 10.

"Highway 10 has always been a death trap," states Traveler.

In fact, the Oklahoma Department of Transportation considers it one of the most dangerous highways in Northeast Oklahoma, and is working to make it safer. Crews are turning the 2 lane highway into a 5 lane. ODot representatives say adding a turning lane will help lower the number of car wrecks. Stop lights will also be added at the intersection of Highway 10 and 137 to also reduce crashes.

"It's definitely going to help out the on the traffic flow," says Payne.

The temporary inconvenience won't last much longer. Representatives with ODot say Highway 10 should completely open in 5 to 6 weeks.

"They've been working on it forever, it's not like the weather has been that bad, so, I think they should have been done by now," states Nick, Travels Highway 10.

One and a half years may seem like a long time for construction but the project is on schedule.

"It's going to be so much better once they get it done," states Daniel Vanetta, Travels Highway 10.
