BRONAUGH, MO.--- You won't catch the Householder family drinking this water, not even their dog.
"I've never drank it. I've taken a sip one time. Didn't like it. Never drank it since then," states Jack Householder, Bronaugh Resident.
Instead they only drink bottled water. The problem not only affects their drinking water, but also their cleaning.
"Now we have an issue with lime and whatever else is plugging up the lines. Messing up our washer, dish washer," states Householder.
They've had to replace and again repair their laundry machine and dish washer in the past six months.
"What we've got here it's kind of a tan colored gooey stuff," says Householder.
Chief Water Operator, Gary Loudermilk says the problem is because of how the water tower is designed.
"We have a lot of hydrogen sulfide in the water and by adding chlroine to that we create sediment and we also created some discolored water," states Gary Loudermilk.
The city began using this system just over a year ago. Prior to that, a clear well with an aerator was used.
"Which took a lot of the sulfur and stuff out of the water creating less sediments," states Loudermilk.
Loudermilk says he's looking into the issue.
"We do have a different engineer on the project right now. He is looking at using our old clear well, if it's still ok, we think we're going to have it relined," states Loudermilk.
But the wait comes at the expense of the residents, as they continue to deal with broken appliances.
"I know a lot of them are plenty tired of having to make the repairs that we make and a lot of them can't afford the repairs that we have to make," states Householder.
The chief water operator says the Department of Natural Resources has ok'ed the water to drink. He also says the water problem is a cosmetic issue, so it will be harder for the city to get grant money to fund renovations to the old system.
