PITTSBURG, KS.--- A former PSU student accused of raping a Pittsburg woman essentially skipped bond, after a judge lowered it and didn't force him to surrender his passport. Abdulaziz Alhwemel was arrested in late October of this year on charges stemming from the alleged rape of a 22 year old woman. Crawford County Attorney, Michael Gayoso says after his bond was reduced from $150,000 to $50,000, Alhwemel boarded a plane in Houston bound for Saudi Arabia. Gayoso says his office is working with federal and international agencies to catch him, while the family says they just want closure for their 22 year old daughter.
"We're working with the department of justice and we're also working with Interpol to see what other avenues we have," states Michael Gayoso, Crawford County Attorney.
"Every day my daughter has to struggle with this, knowing that he got away, that there's never going to be justice, he's free," states Shelly Roybal, Victims Mother.
Alhwemel was in Pittsburg on a student visa, and not a legal citizen of the United States. Gayoso says he is originally from Dubai, and is believed to be there now. Neither Saudi Arabia nor Dubai extradite to the Untied States.
