CRAWFORD COUTNY, KS.--- "We just lost a girl in our sorority this past year in a wreck and she didn't have her seat belt on," states September Perkins.
Fear is the reason why September Perkins takes an extra second to click it.
"I'm always scared of getting in a wreck, getting hurt," states Perkins.
By buckling up, the 19 year old is part of a positive change in Crawford County.
"We've seen a dramatic increase in seat belt usage for all age groups of drivers and passengers," states Sheriff Sandy Horton.
Sheriff Sandy Horton says the increase in seat belt usage is helping save lives. There were 48 rollover accidents this year in the county, but none were fatal.
"Out of the 48 rollover accidents as far as teen drivers and teen occupants, we've had 33 teen involved and fortunately 30 of those teens were properly buckled," states Sheriff Horton.
Those 30 walked away with minor injuries.
"We had 35 adults involved in rollover accidents and out of them 23 were properly restrained and they only saw 9 injuries in those adult drivers," states Sheriff Horton.
Sheriff Horton says these statistics show the power of buckling up.
"We're rolling vehicles over but we're not getting thrown out, and the safest place in a rollover, normally, is inside the car," states Sheriff Horton.
