Waiting for the Polar Express

WEBB CITY, MO.--- The Webb City's Parks and Recreations Department has installed heavy duty tarps around the pavilion near the front of King Jack Park. This will enclose the structure so it can be used as a heated outdoor waiting area for the Polar Express, as well as for other community projects. A $23,000 USDA grant allowed city leaders to buy the tarps and two large heaters to heat the space.

"It adds a whole new dimension to the parks system. We can use this facility now for a winter market, we can use it for community activities and community events like our Polar Express, we can use it for meeting rooms if we need to, we can use it for family events, so essentially it becomes a year round facility," states Tom Reeder, Webb City Parks and Rec. Department.

There are also several retractable tarps installed on the inside of the 180 ft. long pavilion that allow it to be divided into three separate spaces.
