CHEROKEE COUNTY, KS.--- In 2010, more than 10,000 people died in alcohol related crashes nationwide. Cherokee County Sheriff says the holiday season means more traffic, which increases the risk of impaired driving accidents. Law enforcement authorities remind you to have a designated driver if drinking is part of your holiday plans. Cherokee County Deputies will have extra patrols on duty over the Christmas and New Years weekends.

"We want to make sure everyone can get to and from wherever they're going safely. So we'll have extra officers out there looking for aggressive or impaired drivers," states David Groves, Cherokee County Sheriff.

Sheriff Groves say they've seen an increase in the number of designated drivers on Cherokee County roadways over the past two years.
