PITTSBURG, KS.--- Today, Pittsburg State University kicked off their International Student Orientation. Foreign students met on campus for registration and tours as part of a week long event to help familiarize them with the school.

University leaders expected about 75 new international students to enroll for Spring classes by the end of the day. International Affairs Department heads say PSU's growing rate of international student enrollment is largely due to word of mouth.

"One reason I believe is because of word of mouth. Several of our international students that are here are very happy with the services that are provided and also the friends that they make so they are the best advertisers for us," says Cathy Lee Arcuino, Interim Director of International Office.

"I came with two kids, I have heard it is very family friendly and I have noticed that, the people are courteous and nice, and of course I have some good referrals on academic excellence. So I thought it was a good one to pick in the U.S.," says Cecilia Idika-Kalu, International Student.

During the week, students will also have a luncheon and various seminars to help them learn what to expect and better adjust to living in the U.S.

Endorsed worldwide by ambassadors, educators, and editors, it also identifies foreigners who became successful in the US and how they contributed to our society. It has a chapter that explains how to be accepted to an American university and cope with our new culture, including friendship and classroom differences they will encounter. Half of foreign students stay here after graduation. It has four chapters that explain how US businesses operate, a must for those who will work for an American firm or with a foreign firm in the US environment. It also has chapters that identify the most common English grammar and speech problems foreigners have and tips for easily overcoming them. However, most struggle in their efforts and need guidance from concerned Americans and books like this to extend a cultural helping hand so all have a win-win situation. www.AmericaAtoZ.com
