The department usually buys eight new cars each year, but weren't able to buy any in 2012 because of tornado related expenses.
Each new car costs about 27 thousand dollars. Lieutenant Brian Lewis says the department chose to get this particular model because of key features that will be safer and more cost effective.
"It's more fuel efficient," says Lewis. "It's a V-6 engine, the rear doors open wider to be able to get prisoners in there safer, it's all wheel drive which is a big benefit for a multitude of reasons," Lewis explains.
The cars will hit the streets in about a month or two after they are outfitted with new seats, computers, logos, and lights.
