"When it catches fire, it can burn at temperatures at well over 2000 degrees and cause a lot of damage to the chimney itself. Sometimes it can get out of the chimney and into the attic. Chimney's are designed just to vent smoke not to hold fires," says Bob Boyles, Flames.
Boyles says the best seasoned wood to burn is oak and hickory.
