JOPLIN, MO.--- Area shelters say the demand for household items this time of year is far greater than their supply. Many people transitioning back into homes turn to shelters for help getting furniture and appliances, but lately they have had to turn people away.

Local shelter directors say this time of year can benefit people donating as well since many people do spring cleaning. Shelter leaders encourage people to donate household items, saying just a few small supplies could greatly help a transitioning person stretch their finances.

"Anything to help set up a home, we're getting calls daily asking if we have these things and right now we have depleted what we had," says Georgia Jones, Souls Harbor, Director.

Jones says at times the shelter receives more than two dozen calls per day during the spring with people needing help furnishing their homes. If you want to donate appliances, furniture, or household items, contact Souls Harbor or Watered Gardens Rescue Mission for details.
