JOPLIN, MO -- A Jasper man begins his campaign for Jasper County Sheriff.

Larry Newman is holding a series of town hall meetings from now until the election in August.

Newman currently works in the criminal justice system as a bail bondsman.

He also worked in law enforcement for many years and served on the emergency services board of directors.

If elected, he says his first goal is to increase the pressure on illegal drug trafficking.

Newman believes more resources need to be committed to make an impact.

He also wants his officers to be more connected to the community.

"We will develop them to be community oriented and friendly with the public and the people out there at the same time with people who commit crimes we're going to be more aggressive," Larry Newman candidate for Jasper County Sheriff.

Newman's first town hall meeting is this Thursday at 6:30 pm at the Gene Taylor Building on the square in Sarcoxie.
