PARSONS, KS -- Hundreds of students put on their gardening gloves to help beautify Parsons.

Around 400 high school students took the day off from class to help city workers.

The kids took on the task of spreading mulch in flower beds, picking up trash and trimming tree limbs.

This was the school's second annual community service event

"Need to develop that sense of pride. We're the parsons vikings and we need to be proud of our town and we have a lot of support here in our community for our school and the kids just need to be in touch with the people of our community," says Parson High School teacher Dave Duroni.

The work day was organized by the school's national honor society.
